FELT MOUSE CAT TOY
Felt Mouse Cat Toy
Easy animal DIY crafts – FREE Pattern
It’s the second birthday of our cat princess so for her birthday I’ve made her a special gift – DIY felt toy! I loved making it so I’m going to share this lovely project with you and I hope you enjoy it too! A while ago I’ve made a Felt Bear Toy and it has consistently been one of the most read posts. Today we’ll add to the animal crowd and make a simple mouse – FREE printable pattern included!
Felt is such an amazing material to work with. One of the biggest benefits is that you can easily stitch through it whilst it maintains durability. It also doesn’t need any hemming because even raw edges will stay nice and neat. There are different colourways to choose from and they are very accessible. I mostly love to use the grey, cream, blues or soft pink and it’s easy to choose a number of colours. Craft felt comes in small squares so you don’t need to by yards and yards of the fabric! This is particularly useful if you’re making felt flowers and need many different shades.

Instructions
Print out the FREE pattern and cut the pieces out. Place them onto the grey felt and cut the pieces again out of the fabric. You will need a couple for the body, one for the belly and one for each ear.
Put about 50 cm of the cotton yarn through the needle and begin stitching the two identical body parts together along the top edge. Begin with the nose and stitch all the way to the tail.
When you reach the back, stitch the ears on before attaching the belly. Also, remember to make a small french knot on each side of the head to make eyes. When the ears and eyes are done, stitch the belly to the rest of the body beginning at the tail.
Before you stitch all of the belly and body together, leave a small opening to stuff the mouse with the cotton wool. You will need about a handful of the cotton wool, then you can close the opening.
Don’t cut the last piece of the yarn off when you finished stitching the opening. Instead, leave it hanging and take another piece of yarn approx. twice as long. Tie the second piece of the yarn over the leftover piece and braid a small plait. The plait will be the mouse tail!
