DIY Candle Holder
Ellegant and minimalist decoration idea
Today’s DIY candle holder project is trendy as well as creative and affordable! It combines three simple tools which I love - glass, botanicals and long white candles - all ellegant but really easy to find and use. Clear glass is timeless and brings a stylisg touch to practical spaces, whilst long white candles look neat and chic. Plants and florals in clear water then give a sense of life and nature which is my favourite way to decorate. There is something geniously crafted about nature. Any space decorated with plants, flowers or natural materials is suitable for different interior styles from minimalistic to scandi industrial to farmhouse bohemian.
I’ve recently been asked to help with wedding decorating for a friend and these DIY candle holders seemed like a great option! They fit the formal occassion as well as the budget and look amazing. The wedding will be in an old garden with a rustic barn and many touches of the countryside. We’re planning to decorate the place with flowers, branches, lace, wood and of course lights, glass and candles. Many of the ideas can be outside on the grass and many inside in case it rains. These DIY candle holders will fit in perfectly!

What can I use as a candle holder?
You can make DIY candle holder from all kinds of materials. What’s amazing is that many you can even upcycle! You can use flat drift wood to place the candles on. You can also find a thicker tree branch and grind a few holes into it to hold the candles. Old glass bottles and pickled veggies work great and you can decorate them with twine, spray paint or just leave them clear. Another great and trendy way is using cement or an air dry clay. You can make different shapes and either paint the DIY holders or glue botanicals onto them. This is so fun for kids to try too! Alternatively, leave them looking wabi-sabi rustic - that’s my personal taste. I love the pieces looking handmade with each piece slightly different, or inspired by Japan.
Where to use the DIY candle holders
Candle holders are amazing for decoration. Outdoor wedding is only one of them. They will create cozy hygge atmosphere in your home all year round. Use them to decorate your balcony or patio, turning the place into oasis with sprinkles of light. Place them in your bathroom or on the table in the back yard when entertaining friends. Use them as a stylish handmade gift! The options are endless!

DIY Candle Holder
You’ll need:
- Recycled clear wine bottles or affordable new ones
- Long white candles
- Fresh botanicals of your choice
- Clear water
Instructions
First of all, prepare all tools for use. If you’re using upcycled wine bottles, make sure that they are clean. Wash them inside out and soak the bottle in warm water for 30 minutes to remove any label. Avoid using any bottle that has a crack.
Choose simple long candles for this DIY candle holder project. If you’re candles have wider bottom like mine, simply reduce the width to fit the bottle using sharp knife or a peeler. You can also reduce the lengh if needed. When you lit the candle, the melted wax will begin to drip down on the sides. Leave the candle as long as you need it to burn.
When you have the bottles and the candles ready, choose the botanicals to put inside. Ideally, find some plants or flowers which will last in the water for a while. It’s practical especially for the wedding, but also in general. You won’t need to use that many flowers if they last longer.
After you choose and prepare the flowers and branches, fill the bottle with water up to 1/3rd and push them inside. Then place the candle on top. If you choose to, you can decorate the outside of the bottle with rustic labels or a twine too.
